Jump high for Financial Peace

Jump high for Financial Peace

Dave & I are going through Dave Ramsey’s 13 week Financial Peace University.  It has been so good for us.  If you can join a small group, get in it!  In our small group, held at a local church, we watch the video’s together, discuss & do our “homework,” which is essentially things like building up your emergency fund, clearing out your debt & organizing your budget.  It’s been exciting to see that we are in a pretty good place though I know we’ve made some stupid $ mistakes along the way.  Case in point, our only debt -besides the mortgage- is my school loan, at $3,400.  Being debt-free is a high goal of ours now.  Hurrah!

Anyway, never in my life have I been so excited to save money, invest money & clear out our debt.  We have been trying to come up with as many creative ideas as possible for the 3 things that we would really like but our meager budget just won’t give an inch.  1) Saving monthly/quarterly or yearly towards Ran’s college fund.  2) Saving monthyly/quarterly or yearly towards a yearly vacation & 3) Paying extra on our mortgage -which under $90k isn’t obnoxious- but wouldn’t it be great to pay off in the next 11 years as compared to the next 27 years?!?!   (I do have one little money making plan I’m cooking up, which I’ll share with you in the next few blogs. :)

The whole process also has me wondering how we can live on less and give more as well.  I’ve always loved to give, but I’ve never been terribly excited about freezing our standard of living like so many suggest.  I never saw the hope in that little plan, but I’m starting to!  I thought the way to give more, save more & invest more was just to make more — but what do you know- there is another way!  Who’d of thunk it?  Although, I’ve always hoped one day Dave & I would be fully funded enough to make the salary InterVarsity would really like to pay us –which by the way would allow us to do the 3 aforementioned $ goals.  Which, consequently, makes me want to be more dilligent to do my fund-raising work. :)

3 cheers for financial peace.  Dave & I wish we had gone through this course in our 1st or 2nd year of marriage!  We’d probably be gajillionaires by now.  just joshin, ya.

My older sister and I were just talking about this. She just went through it and is now obsessed with saving money. I’ve never seen her like this. She LOVED it and is currently working on building their emergency fund.

Awesome! I’m so glad to hear that old Ramsey has been helping. We’ve been pursuing our financial goals hardcore lately. It’s been exciting to cross off more on our “debt thermometer!
