Hey blogging friends, I want your help!
So, I’m in the middle of a blog transition. A friend of mine is helping me to revamp this place. What a long journey it’s been! Anyway, I’m looking for a new tagline.
I, myself, happen to like the one I have: “authentic sentiments of a gabby, bi-racial, thirtysomething gen-x’er on: LIFE. FAITH. CULTURE. RELATIONSHIPS.”
1. My husband doesn’t like it. Well, in some ways, “who cares right?” It’s my blog!
However, being that he is a creative genius, I’d be stupid not to listen to him. He gave me some ideas I’m also mulling over.
2. The guy helping me with my blog design also thinks it’s too long to make look “cool” in a new web design. hmmpphh.
They think it’s reasonable just to go with “life. faith. culture. relationships.” My issue with that is, you can’t just glance at my blog & know what it’s about… well, I guess you could, but you wouldn’t know much about the author. Of course that is what an “about” page is for, but how boring right?
So, what are your ideas blogging friends? The tagline should encapsulate the blog, answering the question: “why am I here on this website?”
Here’s some of mine & Dave’s ideas in a brainstorming session:
Gabbing With grace: (Header)
(Tagline)
-Where _____ & _____ dine together
-Confessions of a _______________
-The pontifications of ___________
-My life as window into life, faith, culture & relationships / or / One woman’s window into our world / or / My life as a window into our world.
-Pondering faith, life, fashion, culture & relationships
-This is my life, as a gabber girl
-If you’ll allow me to pontificate
-Loving life, loving red, bringing passion into both
-One woman’s musing on life & the world around us.
-Pondering life, faith, culture, relationships & the world around us.
OR
-authentic sentiments of a gabby, bi-racial, thirtysomething gen-x’er on: LIFE. FAITH. CULTURE. RELATIONSHIPS.” (my original idea)
What do YOU think?
Winner gets bragging rights! For example, “Gabbing with Grace” was thought of by the one & only Nosayaba Osai (a student of ours at Western & Ransom’s Nanny)

Gabbing with Grace:
musings of a bi-racial, thirtysomething gabber girl on: LIFE. FAITH. CULTURE. RELATIONSHIPS.
What I like about this one:
- If you only read the first five words, you get a kernel of who you are (and that kernel is rather inviting)
- ‘thirty-something’ and ‘gen-xer’ are almost synonymous (all thirty-somethings are gen-xers); I think calling yourself a ‘thirty something’ is both cool and retro. gen-x stuff is a bit ‘stale’ IMHO;
you know your the 1st person who pointed out to me -and I had never thought of this- that ‘thirty-something’ & ‘gen-ex’er’ ARE basically the same. How could I not have thought of it? It’s like, duh? That’s why I need you in my life, CA guy!
- You are into womens issues, and calling yourself ‘girl’ both affirms the ‘serious’ aspect of that and the whimsy part (which I believe makes you so special – okay, I’m brown-nosing a bit, so I’ll stop);
A few comments from the Left Coast…
no, go on ahead & brown-nose, I don’t mind!
ahhahaha
how about something like…gabbing with grace…and a little life, faith, and culture thrown in there too. OR gabbing with grace…and a little hope, peace, and love too…
I like the play on words with grace (name/act of giving something) so why not continue the play and have things thrown in too?
Does it need to list all the things you are or hope to discuss or can it just be fun and creative?
no, it doesn’t have to say ‘who I am’ per-se, but when I’m scanning a blog quickly to see if I’ll keep reading or make the ‘final commitment’ to subscribe I know I am trying to figure out quickly who the person is & if they appeal to me. I thought having something about ‘me’ in the tagline would get to that end fairly quickly, but no, it’s not a necessity, certainly.
PS. THANK YOU for my card! It was very thoughtful and special!
your welcome, TS! I only wish I could have made it more special by having hte doggone right envelope size!
Can I be truthful? I’ve never actually liked the “gabbing with grace” name. The word gab is synonymous with prattle, babble & blabber- your blog is none of these things which imply frivolity. I actually like “grace notes” a lot better- because you’re writing about your life but it’s also about different areas of your life that are marked by grace- the good and the bad. So- if it was TOTALLY up to me, I would go with something like this: Grace Notes: faith, parenthood, fashion & life as a bi-racial 30-something. I also agree with CA guy about the gen-x thing- that feels so 90′s. Keep blogging whatever you decide upon!
Sorry, Jess but I happen to LOVE “gabbing with grace,” as a header/blog title.
For me, gabbing has always meant “being talkative & extroverting,” in a fun sort of postitive way.
And I like that it’s a play on words, in essence I’m “talking with (hopefully the character of) grace.”
Grace Notes’ was also mentioned over on facebook & I can’t tell you how BORING & un-interesting that title is to me. yek.
i have ruled out “gen-x” though, you’ll be happy to know that
Dave & I got a whole new slew of ideas today for the tagline thanks to some of hte ideas here though
also, I’m getting so excited b/c my new blog design should be ready in the next week or so —finally, eh?!
