I cut all my hair off this morning! I was getting so bored rocking the weave ponytails all summer & I can’t afford the $60-$80 touch-up, press, cut & bump. The costs of course rule out getting braids or twists either.
I started off thinking I’d just trim a little but ended up thinking, “why not just cut all of my perm out?” My hair was about shoulder length with the top half being my naturally curly style and the bottom half being straightened by a permanent relaxer. In other words: a hot mess that I couldn’t style without busting out the hot comb! Who has time or energy to sit and press my hair and in my fragile condition?!
So, I just cut out as much as the perm as I could.
I am left with this…
ay ay ay
I don’t love it. Well, truth be told, I don’t even like it. However, I don’t have to have it pulled down on my face like that –just trying something new.
Also, I haven’t had my hair natural for so long I didn’t have the right products at home. Once I get some good curling mousse & gel I’m sure I’ll like it better. And my hair is not “used to being curly” right now… it will take a few days to respond accordingly.
Once the baby is born I may even go shorter (almost bald) so it will be a lot easier to maintain.
Instead of weave ponytails, you’ll probably see me now with a lot of headbands, head scarves & bobby pins all over my head trying -as Tim Gunn would say- to “make it work.”
Here’s to hair risks, ladies!

Wow!! Looks great to me!! I have been debating on cutting my hair, the shortest I’ve gone is to the neck. How does the back look, is it really short? I think short hair is easier to maintain but really short hair some people say is even harded to maintain. Wow again!!! Go Grace! Lol.
I think it’s a new level of hotness! I love your tresses!
You know what I always say when you cut your hair. So, I’m not gone even say it. But, I actually like the hair cut
ahahaha, Meshell…. I can just hear your tone of voice & see your eyes rollin’ in the back of your head…. “you know it’s just going to grow back in 2 days anyways!” that’s why I love you, girl!
I love it! You’re totally rockin it and you’re right – good products are always a total plus.
Gracie,
I love your hair cut. I just did the same to my hair a few months back. I actually don’t like my hair short anymore and miss the long tresses…but seeing your hair I abosultely LOVE it, and although you say you don’t like it, I think it’s amazing! So it gives me encouragement that although a change which was totally needed wasn’t what I really like anymore others are always saying that they like it, and that therefore reminds me to not always trust my own judgement because others see me differently than I see myself. SOOOO amongst all that babble, I am saying you are beautiful no matter how your hair looks and it is the beauty within you that radiates out, so you could be bald and still rock it and be beautiful! Keep on being risky…it’s good for the spirit
i think it’s cute! and you would also look cute with a super short hair cut, if you decide to go that way.
i am tempted to chop my hair off every time i enter a third trimester. i might actually do it this time. thing is, i miss the pony tails. they’re so easy.
Serina, I am REALLY missing being able to throw it up in a quick ponytail too!…. and it’s only been like 3 days.
I did, however, just make an appt. for a friend of mine to do some inexpensive braids…. it’s not ideal time for me to drop the $30 buck-a-roos but I’m just miserable… as far as my hair is concerned!
