So, the average woman doing around the clock breastfeeding may have an estimated 90-100 hours of nursing in the first 6-8 weeks of a newborn’s life.
I’ve all ready decided I’m going to up my blockbuster subscription to 3-DVD’s-at-a-time for the month of October & November, since when I was nursing my first-born, Ransom I had no options but to re-watch old movies & I got really bored, really quick.
It became pretty obvious that it was too difficult to sleep while nursing, I couldn’t read in the middle of the night & just sitting there staring at the baby was seriously boring. I still remember the elation I felt when my friend Joy let me borrow Seasons 1-3 of Seinfeld. Suddenly, breast feeding went by quick & without focus on the excruciating pain.
So, I’m thinking once the baby #2 is born I’m going to go for a T.V. series as opposed to a random sampling of movies.
Here’s what I’m thinking of all the shows I’ve never seen before: How would you rate my options? I’ll probably only be able to pick 1-2 of these so which would you do?
1. Finish season 5 of “The Office” ~ I stopped 1/2 way through the season last year.
2. Curb Your Enthusiam (starting with season 1) – the nice thing about option #1-2 is they are each only 20 minutes as opposed to the 40 minutes of my other options.
3. Grey’s Anatomy (starting with season 1)
4. Re-watch LOST starting over with season 1 (I am fully caught up with this series from beginning until now)
OR
5. The West Wing (starting with season 1)
So, if you had a lot of TV time coming up what would you watch? Any other suggestions for me that I may not have thought of? (Keep in mind we don’t have cable & don’t have a digital converter box, so we only get 1 single T.V. station: “WGN.” So, we can all safely rule out the fact that I’ll be up all night watching infomercials!
(Also, don’t suggest anything scary, i.e. I can’t do “24,” or anything to realistic like “The Wire,” or anything to sci-fi like “Battlestar Gallactica.”
What about good long book series. Any suggestions? I’m sure I’ll be able to read at least 3 hours a day during the day.
Woohoo! Hurrah for getting to spend at least 2-3 weeks engrossed in a really good series in the middle of the night!

Curb Your Enthusiasm, LOST or Scrubs (I haven’t watched any of that, but I heard it was a great show).
Books – The Twilight series because it is brain candy with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. It doesn’t require a great deal of thought and brain energy, which I recall as being my state of being during my time as the human cow.
The Office and LOST are my votes. While nursing my son, I watch Friends…such great comedy that can be viewed over and over.
In terms of books, I recently made my way through the Twilight series (corny, but entertaining). If you haven’t read Harry Potter, you should.
OK, here’s my opinion:
1. Don’t waste your time on Grey’s Anatomy. Just don’t. Season 1 is the best (and how sad is that). I stopped watching it after that because it got so bad – avid followers will tell you that, as well as some of the actors themselves.
2. Arrested Development is still one of the BEST shows I’ve ever seen. It’s genious.
3. Here are some I always wanted to watch, but never made the time for: Heros, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Madmen.
And of course, you know I’m going to recommend catching up on any and all of THE OFFICE that you may have missed!
Have fun!
Oh yeah, and 30 Rock is one of my favs too. Tina Fey rocks.
Okay, I will take your advice on these:
1. Finish Season 5 of The Office & maybe continue to catch up via Hulu on season 6.
2. The Twilight series for books – so many ladies keep recommending it’s time I give in! (I have done Harry Potter – Love it!)
3. I think I’ll stick to light-hearted with either “30 rock” or “Curb your enthusiam,” since I love me some Larry David. I have all ready seen & re-seen & re-seen “Arrested Development,” I just love it, but probably need a break!
4. And then if I have extra time maybe I’ll move to the West Wing, I’m also a big Aaron Sorkin fan & loved what he did with “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.”
Unfortunately, though I enjoyed season 1 of Heroes when I started Season 2 I started having nightmares & it’s just too much for me… especially at night by myself –not good! ;(
Grey’s sucks after season 1 in my opinion. Add Big Bang Theory to your list. I have season’s one and two and they are hilarious, but almost impossible to find whole episodes online. I’ve gotten a few people addicted. Another recommendation would be Vicar of Dibley. Carol Bechtel LOVES that show also, so I recommend it from her also
I know you already picked but I would definitely agree with “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, I think it’s hilarious. Also, I’ve kind of wanted to get into Mad Men, I heard it’s a great one. As far as books, “Twilight” is good read that you don’t need mental energy for, they were enjoyable.
My favorite book of all time is “Jane Eyre.” This takes more mental energy because the language of that time period is sometimes hard to digest, but I love it! She is a woman who sticks with her convictions. That’s my two cents
P.S. I meant to also write that I liked Stephanie Meyer’s other book “The Host” better than the “Twilight” series.
Ok I disagree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with April on the Grey’s (It is a must watch and you have to watch each season and if the ashy tv will get this years tune in on Thursday nights) With that said…
The Office (I have never been able to keep up with it but any time I watched it I experienced GUT busting laughter).
and a little old school like “In living Color or Martin” we have those and love to reminisce
For me LAW and Order (not you though the story lines are too tragic you would be depressed)
