Rhys King Biskie (pronounced Reese) came bouncing into this world on Monday, October 19 at 7:02pm after what may have been the easiest & shortest labor on record. I’m hoping to write out the birth story to post in few days. If your interested You can see all of the pictures of our labor, delivery, birth & time in the hospital in my facebook album.
my little lazy-puss.
Now to explain the post where I gave you picture clues as to what his name would be.
Rhys is a welsh name which means fiery & passionate. The picture of Jesus was meant to tell you the word passion or passionate, which many of you guessed as “Christian.” The funniest guesses were for the picture of the blazing fire, which some guessed as “Blaze Biskie.”
His middle name is after Martin Luther King Jr. who was: a fiery preacher, a man who cared about justice & equality & arguably one of the most influential African-Americans of the past century.
I think the Reese’s Pieces picture is obvious –his nickname to be sure! Finally, those Japenese Bisquits are often referred to as “Biskies.”
Thanks for playing along, that gave me many good laughs over the next few days.
My not-so-little guy came in at 9 lbs. & 7 oz, & at 21 inches is quite the big baby with cutest set of chubby cheeks you ever did see. Rhys is a solid sleeper. It’s been really difficult to wake him even to eat. Whereas Ransom wanted to eat every 2 hours without fail, but latched horribly, Rhys is going 5-6 hours between feedings & is dehydrated.
(Speaking of breastfeeding, expect a post about that very soon. The title will be “breastfeeding blues.” And it may be a 2-parter).
Man, I’ve been so tired since my little man got here about 52 hours ago. In some ways it feels so useful to have gone through this once all ready & know what to expect. I’m not too pressed about being downright exhausted or having my body go through an array of painful and weird things. For now though I’m trying not to focus on not being able to walk properly and just live through the euphoria of falling in love with someone new.
As for Ransom, he was shockingly cavalier in regards to interacting with his baby brother but is still very excited. Today he said, “Mama, if the baby is out of your belly, why is your belly still so big?” (I explain) “Well, what are we going to do to POP that belly?” Ahhh, kids.
Must go to bed while I have the time!

He is precious Grace. So cute. Congratulations.
What great times! I’m so happy the labor was quick for you. Here’s hoping recovery will be quick too…and your belly will ‘pop’ fast.
Judah was the same way when we brought Ella home. I thought he was adjusting well until I took Ella to her one week check up and when I came back home Judah said: “Oh, you brought HER back with you?” Reality: this chick is staying with us
So glad he’s here, and so jealous of your easy labor
Emma said to me, “Now you are just a little bit pregnant mom!” Oh, the joys of 3 year olds
Oh wait, Ransom is 4 now. Happy Birthday to him too.
he is such a doll.
if you need any support breastfeeding, or just want someone who’s been there, done that (many times) to come over and listen to you, please let me know. breastfeeding issues can be really lonely; i’d be happy to come help.
thank you so much, Serina! I just may take you up on that. I think my milk is coming in today so hopefully that will encourage him to keep at it. Things were much much worse with Ransom b/c there was an assortment of problems, so I’m thankful that at least Rhys latches well.
@Lindsay… today when Ransom saw him he said, “oh look a baby,” almost as if he didn’t just meet him yesterday. So, I think it’s gonna take a while to really sink in. He’s yet to hold him or interact with much but… in time.
POP the belly. hahha Oh Ransom we wish we could! ahahha
