Lisa,
It was my OBGYN who said at 164 I was obese, not 160. 160 is what I've only just gotten down to as of 6pm yesterday ;)

Jess, the no eating after 7pm rule came from Oprah's trainer, Bob Greene in his "Best Life Now" diet. I tried it for a time some time in the last year when I was in school --all those late night drives & one night class, all I was eating was JUNK, and very late with no shot of burning it off. Once I eliminated eating late I started losing. For now, its' the same, I tend to snack on bad staff late, not apples. However, if I'm tempted, I'll consider what your saying about popcorn. all that said, I just had my daily allotment of candy --35 jelly beans.... at 7:45pm at night :) so, obviously, I'm not a real stickler about it. and sometimes we don't even start dinner until 6:30-7:00, but overall I'm trying to reduce calories by watching my nightly intake.

Jill V.Z., have grace for yourself, you have specific issues that are extremely challenging to overcome, I'm proud of your efforts.... not to mention the fact that you are a full-time student! That in and of itself is a hard time of life to manage regular work-outs! I remember!

way to go G! I am inspired to tone it up! I've been happy that I've been able to maintain my goal weight (give or take 3 pounds) for the past year. Now I would love to be a little more defined! Maybe we can do some sort of a competition to stay motivated? I know you love a challenge :) I can really tell actually how yoga is beginning to sculpt my arms- watch out Michelle Obama! On another note- how did you decide to stop eating after 7pm? My sister in law- the doctor unmasked the myth in her book "don't swallow your gum" that eating at night makes you fat. however, when you're tired you often have less will-power & people are more prone to eating junk at night because they're tired. I am always hungry at around 8:00, so I make some popcorn- high fiber, low-fat, eat a few whole wheat crackers & cheese or have an apple with some p.b. This helps me not feel like I have to starve myself and keeps me from gorging out of frustration for the "rules" I've put in place for myself. Just an FYI- do what works for you though!

Oh, Grace, how I love you. And keep it up!

I joined Weight Watchers about six weeks ago, and I'm down about 8 pounds. Yes, I lose weight slowly. Always have, always will. My goal is to go from 130ish to 115. That puts me within 10 pounds of where I was ten years ago. Is it true that you are supposed to recalculate your ideal weight every ten years by adding ten more? I don't think so, but I think 115 is reasonable. Probably still a bit much for a girl who's only five feet tall, but I've never been anything close to a waif! The best part about this all is that I'm doing it without being obsessive! Love that! I do need to work on working out more, but sometimes that's difficult. My body hurts by nature. Still, that's no excuse.

Anyway, so proud of you, and you motivated me!

I'm hoping to lose the 6 lbs I put on between pregnancies as my first goal. From there, maybe the 5 lbs I put on at Cedar Campus right before I found out I was pregnant with Emma. From there, the 5 lbs from the previous Cedar Campus visit. You get my drift. I think being on staff can be really unhealthy sometimes because we are always in student centers at NSO events eating junk at midnight. Like you, I hope to do much of this while I am nursing, with double burning power.

But, I do have to say, 160 for 5'6 is not obese. Any BMI calculator you use will say it's "overweight" because it gives you a BMI of about 25.8. 18.5-24.9 is the healthy range. I don't say that to dissuade you of your goal, but to say that I don't see how that weight can be considered obsese, which is by definition a BMI of 30 or greater.

Good luck! I've just started back at the gym, but I'm horrible about the sweet stuff! I did get inspired by your friends blog about striving for five though & started to incorporate a lot more fruits/veg in my day. That does seem to help! I love that you have the dress on backward! That's hilarious. Although, I think I would have done it to. I mean, the bodice looks like it should be covering a chest and not a back!
