In 2005, Nike released this ad of a black woman’s backside, which is now being replaced with this ad of a racially ambiguous woman (who looks Latino to me) with a much smaller buttox…
Nike is coming out with a new butt-enhancing gym shoe.
The question is with the likes of one Kim Kardashian & Beyonce is having a big butt now in vogue? Or did Sir Mix A Lot’s declaration of liking \”big butts\” take care of that long ago?
I know for a fact that I would LOVE to wear these shoes. Walk in a shoe that “enhances” my butt? Um, okay, no-brainer!
When I saw the ads though, my first question was: are these ads were in any way degrading to women?
What do you think?
I’m happy to embrace all body types and my sisters with big, beautiful round bottoms should be celebrated. In that way, I love these ads. Yet, there is something about the top ad that seems less like a celebration of all body types and more like a degradation.
Am I overthinking it?
Penny for your thoughts,

I think Sir Mixalot said it all. I think a black woman over thirty with a tiny butt seems to be either smoking crack or has A.I.D.S. I am a white male who loves black women and everything about them. In my opinion, they have major advantages in the physical attribute department and anyone who can’t see it that way is a chump who is missing out on all that wonderful goodness.
Arizona Mildman,
Thank you for your love of all butts of sizes & colors! I agree with you and appreciate your perspective!
as someone who love the a$$, i’ll drop my penny’s worth (literally). i like big butts, before the song, before the fad. i don’t think the pics are degrading. the top butt is not bigger, that girl is bending while the second is standing strait. i didn’t notice the color until you said something. i think if nike puts a girl in an ad it could only promote that girl and if she has a big butt then the point must be big butts are alright. just catching up on some of your blogs and i am always shocked on how focused you are on black and white. it must be a mixed girl thing….but i love ya regardless!
